New York City may have shut down after the COVID-19 outbreak, but it hasn’t stopped me from doing what I love as a magician and mentalist to entertain crowds in the comfort of their own homes. Close-up Zoom magic with Harrison Kramer is the new norm…for now…. and, as we move forward, virtually with all of NYC, online magic is here to stay and connect everyone beyond the city that never sleeps. So what does a magician DO virtually, you may ask?
As challenging as it may seem, there’s a lot of new tricks and ways to keep people entertained in a virtual setting. My one of a kind performances give viewers a reason to tune out the pandemic with an unforgettable experience. COVID-19 may have changed the way we do things and has stressed the lives of many, but with live virtual magic and mentalism shows, I will help you get through it.
Interactive online magic shows using Zoom
It helps that more and more people have become super accustomed to using video conferencing to connect with friends and family from afar, especially during this time of crisis. Using zoom as an interactive platform for virtual magic allows people to do just that. But, it goes beyond the four walls in a Zoom magic conference call. Zoom is an interactive experience that still allows participants to join in for a Zoom magic trick or some very cool mentalism.

Quarantine and chill? Or Quarantine and Virtual Magic?
Who knows when we’ll be able to gather at physical locations in New York City again. As we find ways to keep ourselves entertained by using digital devices and streaming services such as Netflix, we often get bored after watching the same movies and shows over and over. That’s because we can watch them anytime with the same expectations of what will happen next and how they will end. On the other hand, a live NY magic show is something you can’t beat! It is always different and the experience is unique to every individual. It’s your very own movie with a magician, except there is no “expected” ending and that’s the “magic” of it.
Who is online Zoom magic for?
Online close-up Zoom magic is more than just a performance for families or magic and mentalism fanatics. It’s for the people that need to connect with one another, which we could use right now more than ever. During a live in person performance, like kids magic birthday parties or corporate magic events, the audience members are there next to one another. There’s a connection as they are all witnessing the same thing. But, with Zoom, the magic show can give people a shared experience in a time when we feel more isolated than ever. You’re welcome.
“For 2 months I have seen reactions of wonder and astonishment from living rooms and offices across the world. I believe that virtual magic is here to stay and that these performances are unique beyond compare.” – Harrison K.
What will happen to magic shows in NYC after COVID-19?
When it comes to this current pandemic, nobody really knows what the future will hold with regards to just about any aspect of life. One of the strongest things about close up magic is how interactive it is in a physical sense. In fact a huge portion of close-up magic depends on being close to people as a form of misdirection as well as having them handle the props that you are using during your magical and mental effects. Some things I think about:
- Will people want to pick a card? How will I know who wants to and who doesn’t?
- Will people want you to stand 6 feet away from them while you perform?
- Will people not want you to place an object in their hand for examination?
- Are people willing to hand over their iPhone when performing a magic trick?
- Will a little bottle of hand sanitizer play a role when doing a magic trick or mentalism trick?
These are just a tiny portion of the myriad of questions to consider when going back to performing magic at live events. As of now we simply don’t know. What we DO know is that magic will morph in the same way that other forms of live entertainment will morph, and we’ll just have to take it day by day. In the meantime, I’m busy creating alternative ways to keep the magic going. After all, I am a magician.
